Spellings this week have looked at the letter o making the u sound like in the words other, son. Today the children had 16 words to unscramble to make a word in this family- it was a challenge but they loved it and lots of them have brought it home to test you! 🤞
Spelling Time🙂This week we are learning lots of different letter combinations that all make the same sound. Here we go.
or, ore, aw, au, al. Have a hunt for words containing these letters - bring them in and we can add them to our lists.
Spellings this week are practising words with the prefix un- unhappy, undone, unfair etc. How many can you think of?
Perhaps you could make some silly sentences using words starting with un.
Spellings this week have practised the suffix ly.
We have learnt to add ly to adjectives to make adverbs.
Loud- loudly, brave- bravely.
Don’t forget to drop the y and add an i.
Happy- happily, greedy- greedily.
Spellings this week have focussed on the letter k.
We have practised words ending in ck with a short vowel- black, shock and words ending in just k with a long vowel- shook, broke. Don’t forget the silent k in know, knight etc.
Year 2s have certainly been living life in all its fullness this week. Stop go animation in computing, sewing as part of our puppet design, writing super pirate stories and so much more!
Puppet making is coming to an end! We’ve designed, cut, sewn, decorated and evaluated. We had some great explanations of what evaluate meant. “It’s how you improve.”
“It makes you think what you learnt to do.”#design technology
Wow! I am so proud of Year 2 today - they walked really sensibly down to the cricket ground and then took part in activities to practise batting, bowling and fielding. We met a celebrity- Stumpy the mascot. Think they will all sleep well tonight😊😊
Excitement in the book corner today as a new box of books arrived. The books are written by our focus author Emily Gravett. No homework set for half term but please read as much as you can- read your reading book, your challenge book and why not visit the library.📚📚📚❤️
What on earth is happening in Year 2?!? Well, Simon, our visitor from the Fire service is explaining what to do if your clothes caught fire STOP, DROP, ROLL. He also suggested the children asked their parents to check the batteries in their smoke alarms- who remembered?
Does jelly with fruit set slower or faster or at the same time as jelly without fruit? That has been our investigation today. What did we find out? And yes Mrs Higham did need a lunchtime trip to Tesco to redo the experiment as it all set too quickly first time!!!
We have focussed on Time in Science week. As well as making water clocks and pendulums we have timed many activities including our maths. We also designed posters showing seasonal changes. Our posters were judged by some Year 6 children. Well done to the winners 🙂🙂
