So once again Japan is better than the US in wrestling. US MFS barely finished ahead, in WFS Japan ran away with it in (for them) a down year, & in MGR Japan is miles ahead of Team USA. 13 medals to 8 with little wrestling remaining.

Wish we could put this guy in charge of United World Wrestling for a while. We could use a huge injection of putting fans first in the sport of wrestling. youtube.com/shorts/jcwCLlX…

This is what the general public thinks when they see a singlet. RIP to the brilliant and hilarious Tim Conway. youtube.com/shorts/yXQ_7j9…

Curiously I’ve run into a number of people recently who genuinely do not know there is a difference between judo and jiu-jitsu. Sounds like judo has deeply failed in capturing mind share at least in the US.

If a university or conference sells control to private equity of athletic programs and the related revenue streams, they are de-facto a profit seeking organization and should be taxed as such.

I don’t understand why camera companies (Sony, Canon, Nikon) persist in making multi-thousand dollar cameras with trash menu systems, seemingly random button placement, & hopelessly bad network connectivity. The UX is straight out of the 1980s & that’s not a good thing.

One thing I’d like to see wrestling borrow from judo is how they break ties for team dual meets. Instead of a boring list of tiebreaker criteria, pick one weight class at random and wrestle a second match with sudden death scoring. First points wins the dual.

Can we stop with writing AI software that anthropomorphizes its responses? I know the software isn’t human. It doesn’t need to talk like it unless I ask it to.

I cut weight one time before I was in high school. It was a disaster - worst performance of the year & was miserable + tired the whole time. Yet when I wrestled up a weight I had my best results. The sport is wrestling, not weight cutting. Focus children on the correct part.

I like the sport of cycling greatly but it’s hard to watch sometimes. The pro peloton is riding faster than ever including eras where we know doping was basically unchecked. Yet we are to believe it’s because of nutrition or training or other marginal improvements. 🙄

I absolutely LOATHE when McDonald's ask you to pull forward and park after placing an online order welll ahead of time because they cannot be bothered to get the order ready. Just stop. It’s annoying.

The key for any sport or company is getting good talent and keeping it in the pipeline long enough to flourish. Too often, we go into sorting mode too quickly. We capture quick developers, but lose so many people who would be better off in the long run if given time to flourish

Been listening to Andy Rodrick’s podcast Served. Well worth a listen. It’s fascinating listening to someone who understands sports as a business and how the money and marketing works. Compare with wrestling where we have a Paleolithic understanding of those topics.

I’m seeing a lot of discussion about recent eye pokes. I received a rough (accidental) one in judo last week & I have thoughts. Yes they happen by accident, but also intentionally. To minimize them, make the punishment severe (DQ etc). Doesn’t matter if accidental, even in MMA.
