The stunning Redstart is another of our summer visitors that returns here to breed from it's winter in trans-saharan Africa. Amazing that this little bird, weighing little more than a £2 coin flies over 3,000 miles twice a year.

The diminutive female Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, about the size of a sparrow, is now a red list species having declined significantly and very rapidly since around 1980. Here the female scales a tree in Devon.
