St John’s Cathedral Delighted to share that the Chapel of the Precious Blood, at St John the Baptist Cathedral, now has its conserved crucifix installed, thanks to the generosity of the Friends and the painstaking work of Hirst Conservation and Bruce Riley of Stone Matters.

Today is the Mass of Chrism at 12 noon, at which all the priests renew their promises, the Bishop consecrates the Sacred Oil of Chrism. The oil is infused with a special perfume (which we create ourselves here at the Cathedral), which gives off a strong fragrance.

Bishop Alan has appointed Fr Alan Hodgson as the new Cathedral Dean & Parish Priest from September 2022. Fr Alan was ordained in 2019, and is currently at Our Lady & the English Martyrs, Cambridge.
