in 1993 the Ferhadija Mosque in Banja Luka was blown up. The 16th century grand Mosque was a triumph of architecture. This was part of a concerted effort to erase Bosniak Muslim identity from the region, a process called “ethnic cleansing”.

in 2019 the Aladza Mosque in Foca reopened after finishing its renovation. The Aladza Mosque, considered a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture, was targeted at the beginning of the Bosnian War by Bosnian Serb forces seeking to ‘ethnically cleanse’ the region.

In April of 1992 the Dretelj Concentration Camp was opened. The exact date is still unknown, although the terrible suffering endured there is well known. It was run by the Croatian Defence Forces (HOS) and later by the Croatian Defence Council (HVO).
