I clocked this today today. I hadn't heard of any encampments on playgrounds or splash pads, and if there were, the purpose of the Public Space Use Bylaw was to give staff the tools to deal with that. So why does the mayor need ONgov to use notwithstanding clause?

An eight-year-old boy who saw a speech I gave at a recent event just told me “that was a very good speech. I think you could probably change the world when you grow up”. 😆🥰

Every Mayor who requested the use of the Notwithstanding Clause to violate homeless people's Charter rights did it for a pittance. None of this will provide the resources needed across Ontario — it wouldn't even provide the needed resources for a mid-sized municipality.

Our downtown is for people who live in Guelph, period. Our low income healthcare, religious institutions, education and social services plus their patrons have every right to be there too. Downtown is for community, not just capitalism. The core is not just for the wealthy.
