Project Officer Karen attended the River Spey opening ceremony this morning, taking the opportunity to showcase our work and progress in the catchment. We work closely with the fishing community on the Spey to tackle invasive species and protect our freshwater ecosystems. 1/2

Exciting news from the Spey! This year we will be expanding our mink control project within the Cairngorms National Park in a bid to protect native wildlife. The Cairngorms are home to many rare and iconic Scottish species which are vulnerable to predation from American mink. 1/3

We have just started our latest #SalmonintheClassroom programme - one of the most rewarding & important things we do each year.🙌 Can you imagine how exciting it will be for the pupils as they watch hundreds of eggs hatch into Alevin, before releasing them into local burns.

Earlier this week, the second Spey salmon of the season was caught at Arndilly, with a Cascade Conehead. What a beautiful 14lb springer! 👏 Well done to the lucky angler Kevin Barron, pictured here alongside ghillie Keith Mclaren being presented with their prizes😁 #speysalmon

We are very lucky to have Scottish Invasive Species Initiative working hard to tackle invasives within the Spey Catchment. Last year we watched as they went to war with a huge area of Japanese knotweed beside the Spey. Check out their blog below to find out how they tackle large areas of invasives.

Our river is safeguarded round-the-clock, every day of the year, by our dedicated team of Water Bailiffs.😁 Here, you can see Richard, our Head Water Bailiff, on one of his regular patrols of the Speymouth and Fochabers Angling Associations. Thanks for all your hard work!👏

Over the past few months, our hatchery manager and bailiffs have been busy 'planting out' large quantities of salmon eggs throughout the Spey catchment.😁 By now these eggs will have hatched and will help to increase the fry and parr densities in our rivers!👏

We are absolutely blown away by these phenomenal posters.👏 As part of our #SalmonintheClassroom programme, pupils at two local primary schools were tasked with creating posters about the Salmon lifecycle. 😁 We couldn't have been more impressed with the results!

Our Biologists are currently completing another year of smolt monitoring at Spey Dam, after an initial trial in 2023 (see the diagram for more info).👇 This study will allow the board to assess the impact of the dam on salmonid migration. We will post updates here soon.

What an amazing sight.😁 Here you can see the alevin in our hatchery, ready to be released into a small number of burns across the Spey catchment. It’s amazing to think that in years to come, some of these salmon could be returning to the Spey as a 20lb adult salmon!

Our bailiffs have already stopped 7 poaching incidents since the start of the season.😠 In our experience, poachers do not catch & release. With Atlantic salmon now endangered, patrolling the Spey has never been more important. If you see any incidents call us on 01340 810841
