It’s been fun today to work with Bernard Essel Maxwell_AW (of Niamh Cullen’s group) to train them in pressure sensor field deployment 🦺 we even got the sun here in Western Ireland on an October day! #coastalboulders #inishmaan #rockcoast #storms

The M3 Buoy just off the Southwest coast has now seen a wave of 18.5m also but this buoy is lot closer to Ireland and shows the size of the seas coming towards Ireland with a very concerning high tide coming up for coastal areas. #StormAshley

#StormAshley from Inis Meain, Ireland at 08:00 UTC today overtopping the pier at times and with strong gusts! Video from the boulder ridge vantage point.

#StormAshley from the SE coast of Inis Meain, Ireland around 09:00 UTC today—high tide was around 06:30 UTC so this is 2:30 past high tide. Awesome waves!!

Highly encourage folks to attend this workshop! And, if you’re a student, definitely apply for this student volunteer program. I was a student volunteer back in 2021 and it was a wonderful experience!! #HazWS2025

This week I had the wonderful opportunity to organize and lead the Notre Dame Engineering Graduate Women’s Writing Retreat visit to Inishmaan for the day. Highlights included: #coastalboulder deposits, Dún Chonchúir (fort), the stone walls, Synge’s Chair, & more! #outreach #PhDresearch

Stumbled across these gems from June 2022 (teaching the #StormsMoveBoulders Kylemore-Inishmaan) US-Ireland Field School on #coastalboulder deposits. The photos feature: James Herterich, @MelissaBerke, & some of the field school students! Looking for photos with Dr Mary Bourke @megafloods.bsky.social too!

Presented my work at #GISDay2024 hosted by Hesburgh Libraries and enjoyed a slice of cake afterwards! A wonderful initiative to connect across disciplines, colleges, and bring together graduate students and faculty using GIS tools in their work!

With how things are going on this app…I’m going to join & migrate from Twitter to Bluesky. Other researchers have convinced me it has become a vibrant hub for academic exchange in the void. I’ll still post on here occasionally, but postings will be sparse. Same username!

The forecast for Cuba is still as much as 3 meters; the forecast for Honduras and the Cayman Islands is for 0.3m to 1m. The threat continues and in these areas, is much larger than observed in MX. A tsunami is not a tidal wave- that's the surf. A tsunami is more powerful.
