The Speedy is looking at whether thrombectomy for stroke patients can be sped up through direct ambulance admission to specialist centres, rather than the nearest hospital. Paramedic Matt, explains here what it has been like getting involved the trial. #wmasresearch

As it’s #WorldBrainDay we’re highlighting that 1 in 4 people will have a stroke but access to thrombectomy is still poor in many countries. The evidence we’re making with SPEEDY isn’t just for the NHS. Thank you for supporting research to change lives worldwide 🌍 #SavingBrains

Just 1 in 4 patients with large vessel occlusion strokes are directly admitted to specialist hospitals which can remove the clots mechanically 🧠 Crews at Dudley Hub, and other Hubs across West Midlands Ambulance Service #HelpUsHelpYou - use Speedy to help more patients access brain-saving thrombectomy.

Everyone knows the NHS runs on 🫖&🍪 so we're sending SPEEDY supporters some delicious dunkers made in Northumberland by The Hextol Foundation, who provide work experience for people needing a bit of extra help. First batch of shortbreads, oaties and 🔥gingers are on the way to WMAS😋

🤩With all your help we have now passed *500* SPEEDY ambulance calls to thrombectomy hospitals!🏆 Please keep calling so we can improve emergency stroke care. Only some patients will be clinically selected to go directly to thrombectomy services, but it’s never wrong to call🙏🏻

🚨 A reminder why SPEEDY matters just published by us in EMJ: patients not admitted directly to thrombectomy centres are HALF as likely to receive treatment. Let’s keep working together to give everyone a chance to avoid severe disability 🙏🏻#savingbrains emj.bmj.com/content/early/…

Superb thrombectomy day hosted by UHNM Charity 🏥 Sanjeev Nayak today. We heard patient stories shared by those who did, and did not receive this brain-saving treatment. Too many patients miss out - I was pleased to explain how Speedy is one step in the path to improving this

Thank you Sanjeev Nayak Emergency stroke care definitely needs more resources but also needs more evidence. NIHR funded SPEEDY is the largest ever 🚑 trial to examine whether selected patients should be directly admitted to thrombectomy 🏥. Let’s keep working together to find out 🙏🏻
