We love the Avanti soccer club SouthLakeES ! Soccer is one of the most popular sports at our school & the excitement is contagious! We love to see students feeling successful as soccer players, exercising, learning resilience, practicing team work while having fun!

Our 5th grade philanthropists worked so hard this year to learn about philanthropy & decided as a team to donate $1000 to CaringMatters ! Caring Matters provides grief support to students who have lost a loved one. Thank you to thegivingsquare for providing this opportunity!

We had an AMAZING author visit Ada Ari for an assembly ! We listened to one of her engaging stories, sang, danced learned about culture in Ghana ! Students were so engaged & excited to meet an author that made reading so fun! MCPS Community Schools Team

Our 4th graders loved learning about yoga & mindfulness today w/ Mariana Cruz! They leaned different mindfulness & yoga exercises while learning how mindfulness can help calm their brain & body to help them focus and learn! We ended with students volunteering to lead yoga poses!

Caregivers learned w/ Healthy Little Cooks how to create a healthy slow cooker meal & learning about nutrition. Then families came in the evening for family dinner. They learned about healthy eating, ways to connect literacy & math to cooking & received free books MCPS Community Schools Team

Community School Liaisons (CSLs) build bridges between students, families, and their surrounding communities through wraparound services, after school programs, and even classes for parents. We need to fully #FundMCPS to ensure Community Schools have the resources they need!

At the 3rd Art, Literacy, & Mindfulness workshop, families read the story Alphabreaths, drew lines to represent their breath as they practiced mindful breathing & created family phonics cards! They received free books, art supplies & resources for learning @ home MCPS Community Schools Team
