I was so honored that Sonia M.Salmon-Gayle, LCPC, NCC invited me to give some opening remarks at this amazing (and enjoyable) #lungcancer fundraising & awareness event last night: Cinderella Cares Comedy for Cure, supporting local organizations as well as GO2 for Lung Cancer! dccomedyloft.com/shows/252005

I know it's April Fool's, but too mean, White Coat Investor !
I was so glad to see so many GWU_ALCSI members at the GO2 for Lung Cancer #VoicesSummit last week. Thank you for dedicating your time to advocate for increased lung CA research funding and screening access on Capitol Hill! GWThoracic
Thank you to Shreya Papneja & the GW University ALCSI chapter for the invitation -- it's always invigorating to talk with dynamic, enterprising young leaders who are engaged in important issues like disparities and lack of access in #LungCancer screening.
Reasons not to be screened for lung cancer — and why they don't hold up. Check out this article by Dr. Dan Boffa addressing common reasons people give for not participating in lung cancer screening 🫁

Potentially practice-changing and very real-world-relevant! We had already stopped getting post-pull CXR UCSF-East Bay KPNorthernCal and we had partly adopted this practice Yale Thoracic Surgery -- I have now implemented this in my own practice GWThoracic, supported by these findings.
A research team led by Sora Ely, MD (including Jeffrey Velotta MD FACS and Dana Dominguez, MD) of UCSF-East Bay found that the benefits of regionalization did translate to improved 1-year survival, but not 3-year survival: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34261883/
To kick off Lung Cancer Awareness Month, the GW Surgery GWThoracic team will be fundraising, volunteering, & walking for the LUNGevity Foundation Breathe Deep DC 5k event Sat @ 10AM. Please join us if you're in the area, & consider donating!

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month! GWThoracic will be hosting and participating in events all month.
Congrats to my Yale Thoracic Surgery co-fellow Brooks Udelsman on his #AATS2023 presentation reminding us that, in spite of rising SBRT utilization in healthy pts (i.e. operative candidates), surgical resection is associated with statistically and clinically significant [much] better OS!
Proud to be part of this huge Yale Thoracic Surgery contingent at #AATS2023 ! Brooks Udelsman Peter Zhan andrew dhanasopon (not pictured but also representing: Dr. Justin D. Blasberg Gavitt Woodard)
Congratulations Peter Zhan on this excellent poster characterizing the risk of COVID-19 infection during the course of lung CA treatment at #AATS2023 .
