Welcome to Koor! We’re an independent, community-led platform dedicated to the preservation of Somali culture in all its forms. From material to intangible aspects, our mission is to honour and celebrate the rich heritage of the Somali people.

Together with Asha, Ibrahim, and Idel, I'm excited to share the Koor Archives project with you! Follow this space and join us on the journey to preserve and celebrate Somali culture both at home and abroad.

Over the past few years, Koor Archives have travelled the world, acquiring and contextualising Somali cultural artefacts, making them more accessible to the communities from which they originate!

Attention all writers 🎙️ The SHMC committee is proud to announce a poetry contest. Students are to explore this year’s theme, “Aqoon la’aan, waa iftiinla’an” through creative poetry. The competition is opened to students in grades 4-12 & the submission date is Oct. 25, 2024

Years in the making and the Somali Centre for Culture and Recreation is now happening thanks to community leadership and support from all levels. On the heels of Black History Month and on the first day of Ramadan, we came together today and announced $20m in federal support.

Proud to join @somalicentreto & Minister Nate Erskine-Smith at Humber College for a $20M federal investment in a new community centre! As a TDSB Trustee & Director of TLC, I am happy to have secured a 49-year lease through Torontodsb—paving the way for this new project in City of Toronto 🇨🇦.

Thanks to the hard work of the Somali Centre for Culture and Recreation team, the government of Canada has made a historic pledge to support a Somali culture & recreation centre in Toronto. I couldn't be prouder of the team and our community. There's still a long way to go, but today is a celebration!

Thousands of Somali Canadians call Toronto home, and for many the Somali Centre for Culture and Recreation has been a long-time dream. After years of work and collaboration, it’s now a reality! Celebrating this landmark moment in Rexdale this weekend was a joy.

This is a much welcomed announcement in support of @somalicentreto and the Somali community. This is the culmination of the effort of so many to bring this important Community Centre to the residents of Toronto, Etobicoke and surrounding communities. 👏👏👏

Fun facts: the male mannequin is wearing my father-in-laws outfit from my wedding, the female mannequin was dressed by my wife, first time she ever tied a guntiino, the xeedho (fujaan) was sewn by ayeeyo about 40 years ago and the gambadh was borrowed from my friend Liban lol.
