Our lab did a science outreach activity with preschoolers today. The students taught the children about ‘good’ microbes and ‘bad’ microbes with a pizza dough activity (yeast) and a handwashing activity. So fun! Cheeke Soil Microbial Ecology Lab

Cheeke Soil Microbial Ecology Lab students finished setting up a mycorrhizal responsiveness experiment today. Great job team!

Tanya Cheeke, assistant professor of biology, works with students in the WSU Tri-Cities #greenhouse to repot plants to be used for #research in using a type of #fungus to repopulate #nativeplant populations. Interested in studying #biology? Visit tricities.wsu.edu/cas/undergradu… #GoCougs

Dr. Cheeke Tanya Cheeke from WSU joined the Tyson Community @WashUTyson Thursday to speak on the importance of mycorrhizal fungi, organisms that attach to plant roots and aid in nutrient uptake, in the restoration of the dwindling tallgrass prairie ecosystem. -Dr. Rachel Becknell

Cheeke Soil Microbial Ecology Lab students hard at work making root slides to score for % mycorrhizal colonization

Excellent poster presentations by undergraduates Marcy, Ashley, & Javier at the WSU Undergraduate Research Symposium. Great job, everyone!Cheeke Soil Microbial Ecology Lab

Spent the afternoon showing Master Gardeners how to identify arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in roots. Thanks to members of Cheeke Soil Microbial Ecology Lab for helping to set this up!

#ESA2020 Cheeke Soil Microbial Ecology Lab is looking for a postdoc who can help to analyze & interpret existing AM fungal sequence datasets. Please email for details. Ideal start date this fall; working remotely is also possible.
