We are very sad to hear of the death of Desmond Tutu this week who said that Sir Stan was a great friend to South Africa during the apartheid years because he went into dangerous areas of Soweto to mentor young black players. They called him the 'black man with the white face'.

Our Local Hero mentor Conor Washington scored a stunning goal last night, lifting the ball over the Morecambe keeper from outside the area. Conor has been working brilliantly alongside our Local Hero participants offering advice and insight from the world of professional sport.

Well done to these young tennis stars of the future who are a credit to the Florence Tennis Club and the Foundation. Whilst taking part in our sessions they have also been working towards Sir Stan's Fair Play Shield which is to be presented in December. Well done to all involved!

The 2021 Ballon d’Or winner will be announced later this month. Sir Stan famously won the first award back in 1956. Would the likes of Messi and Jorginho be able to play in the conditions Stan played in, with heavy leather footballs, thick leather boots and on terrible pitches?

This week FourFourTwo released their '50 Most Influential Footballers'. The article pays a fitting tribute to Sir Stan by saying he was 'a simply unstoppable forward who was hugely intelligent and capable of turning games on a whim with his pace and dribbling skill'.

It's been quite the summer for Women's Cricket and for our ambassador Heather Knight who scored a brilliant century as they beat New Zealand last week. Knight's 101 helped England secure their highest successful run chase in a one-day international. Very well done Heather!

Everyone at the Foundation would like to send their condolences to the family of Jimmy Greaves. Jimmy will always be remembered for his contributions to football, his extraordinary goalscoring record in the English top-flight and his warm personality. He will be sorely missed.
