Clearly, they are unwilling, unable, and uninterested in genuine resolution of the Gukurahundi Genocide. As we suspected, the Chief's process is a charade, a sham. A smokescreen. The victims should continue to look elsewhere for justice and accountability.

When you have money, power or control, it is easy to believe you will always have it, that you will always be able to do whatever you want, to whoever you want, however you want.But power, money & control invariably ends.And when it does, you will have to account for your crimes.

I'm delighted to be speaking at this event by the AU/CSVR/ICTJ to commemorate the Rwandese Genocide of the Tutsi. I spoke about the Gukurahundi Genocide in Zimbabwe & importance of a decolonial understanding of the pathology & anatomy of atrocities via classification of conduct.

Praying for your safety, my Kenyan and Tanzanian compatriots in the midst of devastating floods. We are truly living in our end times. In Southern Africa, it is the lack of rain that is threatening and taking lives, yet in East Africa, it is too much rain. Climate change is real.

4 years ago & in the throes of Covid-19. The theme of this last issue of BUWA at OSISA was 'Women Human Rights Defenders.' We went on to support the establishment of the African Women Human Rights Defenders Network. One of my proudest moments at OSISA.

There's nothing to be lost and everything to be gained in treating everyone you interact with, especially those less fortunate, less powerful and less privileged than you, with respect, kindness, fairness and consideration.

Always, when you are offered a role think of it as a rope, you can throw it to others to help them up, you can use it to climb up yourself....or use it to descend when you have to. But remember, it can also entangle and throttle you as all ropes can.

Humility Check:

In a group, team, society, organisation, association, community, country, or relationship, resist the urge to over-essentialize yourself. You may matter, but not only you matter. With or without you, groups, teams, communities, people & countries keep going.
