Dignity in Dying have launched a campaign this week against the phrase “assisted suicide”—and by an amazing coincidence, the first three pro-bill speakers, including the two flanking Lord Falconer, objected to the term. A few reasons why “assisted suicide” is good terminology:

Took us a while to get into The Ballad of Wallis Island, but what a wonderful film. Loss, moving on, loneliness, vulnerability laced with humour & humanity. Sweet & sincere. Do watch it.

I’d like to congratulate Ryder Cup Europe on their victory. Your team play the first few days was sensational. More importantly, I’d like to apologize for the rude and mean-spirited behavior from our American crowd at Bethpage. As a former player, Captain and as an American, I

My next novel, THE PERSIAN, drops tomorrow. It’s a story about the Israel-Iran shadow war featuring a clever dentist recruited by Mossad…and (I hope) it’s also a story about love and forgiveness in a world of lies. Available wherever you get your books. linktr.ee/mccloskeybooks

Looking forward to getting my hands on a copy before too long. This is a break from the Artemis Proctor series, starting with #DamascusStation which are all must-reads too.

I’ve just made a small donation to the CST who work to keep the Jewish community safe. Posting because Morgan’s tweet below gave me the idea, and because it somehow feels important for non-Jewish Brits to express solidarity publicly today. גמר טוב

Palliative care research funding has always been ridiculously low. But in the context of assisted dying this minimalist level 👇🏻👇🏻 is dangerous. If the way we care for dying people is a measure of our health system & society this is a fail spcare.bmj.com/content/early/…

The standard prescription for Epi-Pens is 2 pens. This isn’t so you have a spare. Some anaphylactic reactions are biphasic meaning symptoms return after/despite the first dose. About 10% require a second epinephrine dose. If you need it, you want to have BOTH pens with you!

It is a little known fact that tonight's clock re-adjustment was pioneered by German-British artist Frank Auerbach, to the great dismay of the proponent of the original change, politician Konrad Adenauer

🔥 Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson drops a bombshell stat. In 20 countries without assisted suicide, palliative care funding rose by 25%, BUT in the Benelux states where there is AS, it has only risen by 7.9% in the same period. Legalising assisted suicide weakens REAL care.

1. After four days of expert testimony to the Lords committee, it’s clear: The Keir Starmer-backed assisted suicide bill poses a major threat to disabled people, the elderly, the mentally ill and the marginalised.

This week I gave evidence to the TIA Bill committee in the House of Lords. The Committee were rigorous and forensic - but I was left with the feeling that for some members, all suggested amendments are viewed as ‘wrecking’. Witnesses could submit written evidence. Mine👇

Discussion right now in House of Lords on medicines used for assisted dying. A claim that we have lots of evidence from abroad on safety and effectiveness of medicines. BUT did you know that most jurisdictions don’t report even what drugs they use, let alone data on safety and

No, Prof Whitty, I think you are confused. When my mum or dad says, “I’ve had enough, I want to die,” I am not ‘imposing my views’ on them by holding their hand and telling them “it’s OK, I love you & am here with you.” That’s not coercion - never coercion - it’s love. 😔
