Aside from how embarrassing this is, this has significantly widened Rachel Reeves’ fiscal black hole. By delaying the (limited) reforms until autumn 2026, the OBR now won’t scorecard any savings. The autumn budget is shaping up to be very painful - tax rises are coming.

Canada is planning to recognise a Palestinian state at the United Nations in September, the country's prime minister has said. Mark Carney's announcement comes a day after the UK said it will recognise Palestine as a state unless Israel meets several conditions.

Picture the scene: a new Prime Minister and Chancellor spending billions without also making the necessary savings to offset their splurge and balance the books. The markets react adversely, interest rates spike and the cost of living gets worse with prices soaring.   For all
