After a difficult a few months, the wild dogs pups are finally old enough to keep up with the adults on the hunt. Here they are playing with a piece of Impala skin.

Our local leopard Ntima on high alert as the sounds of hyenas echo in the area. The dappling black spots on his body form circular rosette patterns that are golden in colour at the centre. Some of the spots on his neck, belly, and limbs are smaller and do not form rosettes.

One of the most misunderstood big five animals. The Cape Buffalo is known as the mafia of the Kruger because of its unnerving gaze and daunting demeanour.

The leading lionesses of the Western Pride are skilful stalkers, this is how they make sure the entire pride is well fed. The lioness stays hidden as long as possible in order to get as close to the prey as possible.

The Hyena’s milk has the highest protein content of all carnivores and second highest fat content after polar bears and sea otters. Hyena cubs are black when born and change to their familiar spotted pattern after 3 months.

Cheeky, playful and fascinating 🐒 All around the Timbavati you’ll see troops of Vervet Monkeys communing with nature, and with our human community. You can expect some interaction with these playfully mischievous primates as they swing on the trees that shade River Lodge’s deck
