Many of my Democratic colleagues chose to go on vacation early today rather than staying to vote to keep people in their homes. I’ll be sleeping outside the Capitol tonight. We’ve still got work to do.

The U.S. House just passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. This is an important step forward, but not enough to save our democracy until this bill and the For the People Act become law. The President must push to reform the filibuster so that the Senate can pass both bills.

Yesterday, the House passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act that will help Americans everywhere make their voices heard. Now the Senate needs to follow the House’s lead. Call your Senators and ask them to do the right thing. Our democracy is on the line.

I’m thinking about the Black, brown, low-income, queer, and young folks in Texas. The folks this abortion health care ban will disproportionately harm. Wealthy white folks will have the means to access abortion care. Our communities won’t.

Today, 666 (🤨) new laws signed by Abbott take effect in Texas. I just wanted to highlight a few that: 🚨 allow dangerous people to have guns without a license 🙅🏾‍♀️ virtually bans abortion 🏕 criminalize the homeless 🤫 censor teachers 💰 punish cities for budget decisions

Black Lives Matter means Haitian Lives Matter–period. There must be accountability for the inhumane treatment of Haitian migrants by CBP agents. President Donald J. Trump must lead with compassion & #StopTheFlights.

Politicians choosing their voters instead of the other way around. Texas’ latest example of “racial gerrymandering” that is completely antithetical to our democracy & constitution. We must fight this in the courts & Congress must establish independent redistricting commissions.

My thoughts are with the students, educators, staff and families of Timberview High School in Arlington as we continue to learn details about today’s shooting.
