On this day in 1956, Autherine Lucy became the 1st black student admitted to University of Alabama, after a long legal battle that included the Supreme Court. Riots ensued and She was expelled 3 days later for "her own safety”. #BlackHistoryMonth

Ida B. Wells successfully sued the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad Company after she was forcefully removed from a Tennessee train for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger. The victory was later reversed by the Tennessee Supreme Court.
