1/New paper! We use biologging to study social dynamics of white sharks. While many associations are short, we found evidence of longer associations. royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs… Royal Society Publishing FIU College of Arts, Sciences & Education FIU Institute of Environment Sharkproject International

For anyone who's spent way too long creating posters in PPT at 4000% zoom🔎😭 BioRender Poster Builder is officially launched! Magically resize columns, customize colors, vector export, and more🙌🏽 It's free to use and currently in beta. Lmk your thoughts! app.biorender.com/#new-poster

New fully funded #PhD for Sept 2022! ONLY for Indian Ocean region candidates to study sea turtle biology in the Western Indian Ocean, including foraging ecology & identification of critical habitats. Funded by Bertarelli Foundation at Swansea University More details: tinyurl.com/mamckb2h

New paper out where we use biologging to look at activity patterns in oceanic whitetip sharks. We found some sharks were diurnal and some were nocturnal. link.springer.com/article/10.100… FIU College of Arts, Sciences & Education FIU Marine Biology

Very pleased to see my first grad student successfully defend his PhD. Congrats Dr Maurits van Zinnicq Bergmann, PhD on a great dissertation Predator Ecology & Conservation Lab FIU Marine Biology

Visualise & quantify space use of lots of animals: github.com/SimonDedman/mo… on CRAN; automates dBBMM modelling & plotting. Thx to coauthor Maurits van Zinnicq Bergmann, PhD 🥳

Out in NatureClimate : Following an intense upwelling event killing 81 species e.g., bull sharks and manta rays, we show increasing trends in upwelling frequency and intensity in SouthAfrica and easternAustralia and how movements of bull sharks are impacted!

New paper lead by Maurits van Zinnicq Bergmann, PhD we used individual based modelling and telemetry to understand the roles of predation risk and competition in driving space use by a shark and ray community.

What drives habitat use in marine predator communities? Maurits van Zinnicq Bergmann, PhD et al. unveil the roles of competition, predation and intraguild predation in shaping elasmobranch 🦈 spatial distributions. buff.ly/3wKtZWd

Thoroughly enjoyed wrangling sharks with Captain America and our crew. Very unexpected to see not just 1 but 2 Marvel superheroes demonstrating our poop method for science on tv. Anthony Mackie and Chris Hemsworth congrats with your ‘brown wings’💩 !

🚨new paper🦈 our 8-year study reveals that tourism-related feeding in Bimini, Bahamas concentrates critically endangered great hammerhead shark space use around feeding sites, altering their behavior over time Vital Heim Save Our Seas Tristan Guttridge tinyurl.com/87hdudva
