Stunning example of the cholangioblastic variant of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. At first glance these look like neuroendocrine tumors and there is chromogranin/synaptophysin expression (patchy) but not INSM1. The kicker is inhibin. PMID: 33999553; PMCID: PMC8516671.

Santiago Ramón y Cajal shared the 1906 medicine prize for his work on the structure of the nervous system. His co-laureate Camillo Golgi developed a staining technique that made it possible to colour nerve cells using silver nitrate.

Andrew Scullion (pictured) was one of the first babies to have a bone marrow transplantation – a procedure that has saved countless lives. It was developed by medicine laureate Donnall Thomas who performed the first successful bone marrow transplant between two humans in 1956.

Gastric adenocarcinoma proximal polyposis syndrome (GAPPS), a variant of familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), established in 2016. The APC gene is large; sequencing techniques had to advance to find the mutation! There were many fundic gland polyps and foveolar adenomas.

Metastatic renal cell carcinoma is really a sneaky thing. This example produced a duodenal submucosal lesion - at first glance it resembles Brunner glands. #UMiamiPath Modern Pathology Innovative Science Press

Needle biopsy of a gastric glomus tumor; in this location, a neuroendocrine (carcinoid) tumor would be considered. These lesions sport various molecular alterations, but immunohistochemistry can confirm the diagnosis. Iwamura R, et al. PDGFRB and NOTCH3 Mutations are Detectable

✅ BRAF The majority of SSL are driven by a BRAF V600E mutation. This is a hallmark of the serrated neoplasia pathway and distinguishes them from most conventional adenomas and many TSAs #PathTwitter #Pathology #GIPath

Pyloric gland adenoma in uninflamed gastric body. There is an association with autoimmune gastritis (pyloric metaplasia progressing to pyloric adenoma) but this patient does not have it. Note the appearance of the surface of the adenoma versus the adjoining foveolar epithelium.

More disappointing news in #HCC: Adjuvant pembrolizumab failed to beat surveillance in the global P3 #KEYNOTE-937 trial (NCT03867084). Merck disclosed the negative result quietly in an SEC filing. Not unexpected after #IMbrave050

We think of a "null" (complete loss) p53 immunohistochemical staining pattern in Barrett's esophagus with high-grade dysplasia, but this example of low-grade dysplasia shows it.
