Relieved to see the #flooding from new years day has retreated around my office at Space Park Leicester and the neighbouring Ellis Meadows, though it was nice to have a brief lakeside view 🚣‍♂️ Data from Planet's high resolution SuperDove satellites, for 26th Dec - 1st Jan - 9th Jan.

On 15 January, #Copernicus #Sentinel3 🇪🇺🛰️ captured this beautiful image of the British Isles ⬇️#Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 was covered with snow, and there were only few clouds above most of our friends and followers in/around the UK 🇬🇧 and Ireland 🇮🇪

This is a really good paper (biased but still...) Quantifies health benefits of geostationary (and polar-orbiting) satellite data. More data, especially in near-real-time, can allow the public to make living-saving decisions to the tune of $13 billion and that's an underestimate.

It’s been 24 hours since the new EPA PM2.5 (air quality / particulate matter) standard, so that’s enough time to pass for a few hot takes. The new standard is a net positive for sure, but several important nuances to be aware of… Mega-thread! 🧵 1/

Every winter, the Po Valley in Northern Italy experiences poor #AirQuality as temperature inversions trap pollutants against the mountains, such as Nitrogen Dioxide shown here. TROPOMI Copernicus EU ESA Earth Observation

Blink and you'll miss it! On 18 May, a meteor burned up in the night sky over Spain and Portugal – it was also caught by the Lightning Imager on the Meteosat Third Generation Imager satellite far away in geostationary orbit. Credits: European Space Agency / EUMETSAT

The final chapter of my Ph.D. is published! We show how the soil moisture vs. soil NOx relationship can help explain NO2 variability over Central U.S. cropland, with implications for rural to urban AQ. Check out our publication at JGR: Atmospheres 👉 doi.org/10.1029/2024JD…

Having a great time at the #UKEO2024 conference in York. I had the opportunity to present work from my PhD, where we looked into the barriers and pathways to implementing satellite data into air quality regulation. Link to study: doi.org/10.1016/j.envs…

When you hear about #wildfires in the #Amazon its sometimes hard to truly appreciate the scale. This animation shows smoke from these record-breaking fires consuming most of the region, a disaster for both health and the environment🛰️🔥 Made with Sentinel Hub & NOAA Satellites
