Between 1629 and 1834, more than 4,000 people of African descent were enslaved in colonial Canada. They were exploited for their labour, and subjected to physical, sexual, psychological, and reproductive violence. In August we celebrate #EmancipationMonth across Toronto. #CABRTO

Many may not know that slavery was legal and #Canada participated in it. Yes; Canada enslaved people on this land. Many of the racist practices that we have today stem from the dehumanization of Black people that justified slave trade.
