Perhaps a super high glucose tells you it is DKA? and in a world of obese people, are starving people coming with a pH of <7.2?

In sepsis we see:
*Tachycardia *Hypotension (MAP <65)
*Low Bicarb/High anion gap/Low pH on ABG or VBG

I have never really understood what the lactate level adds to this. If HCO3 is low, pH low, Gap high, what does Lactate level add?
