Our emergency response requires more than just “whole of government” action—we need a “whole of society” approach to fixing this catastrophe. Homeland Security is surging all available resources to the border and treating the emergency situation like we would a major natural disaster.

In Yuma, I saw firsthand how dire the humanitarian and security crisis is at our border. The overcrowded border patrol station is our third-busiest and presents a snapshot of how overwhelmed the system is. Congress can’t look the other way. It’s time to wake up and fix this.
