Hold your dangerous, populist demagogues close tonight

Sean Dillon passed peacefully today, February 13th, in the company of his loving parents, brother Shay and Shay's wife Andrea, and the love of his life Lara. The following obit is being posted by his brother Shay but in his own words.

I spent my career in the charitable sector and always took great pride in knowing my work contributed to making people’s lives and communities better. Serving with the YMCA for over 25 years in roles ranging from Aquatics Director to VP Business Development I was proudest of

my efforts to build the new Chatham YMCA and develop municipal partnerships creating new YMCA branches in Forest, Parkhill, Clinton, Petrolia, and Watford. I also served 3 years with the MS Society as Regional Director and lastly with VON Canada as the Manager Fund Development

for the Erie St. Clair region. In all of these roles I was indebted to supportive colleagues and dedicated volunteers.

During the pandemic I joined Faces of Advocacy, as the volunteer Director of Operations, creating and executing strategies to influence government and the general public to address issues of family and committed partner reunification across Covid closed international borders.

The group’s advocacy changed government policy multiple times, resulted in extensive national media coverage, and led to our Founder, Dr. David Edward Ooi-Poon, providing direct testimony to the Health, Immigration, and Public Safety Committees of Canada’s Parliament.

In this group of 12,000 members I found fulfillment, purpose, and friendship in a time of unusual hardship.

Through my battle with ALS I learned just how loved I was and appreciated the support, friendship, and care provided by family, friends, and former colleagues. I was overwhelmed by love and it made the uncertainty of illness easier to bear.

I loved each and every one of you and considered myself fortunate to have known you all. Thank you all!

Cremation will take place and my family will organize a Celebration of Life in the next few months. Details on the Celebration of Life will be posted.

In lieu of flowers I ask for donations to the ALS Society of Canada, in hopes of finding a cure, the Sarnia & District Humane Society, where Molly and I found each other, or a non-religious charity of your choice. Finally, remember me from time to time over a good beer.
