There is an irrational hate for sub $500k EBITDA businesses in the SMB space. Sure, for many, this size of business isn't going to be worth the hassle, but here are my thoughts on why I think these business can be awesome for first time buyers: 1. It's a great Training Ground.

If you are looking to buy a Sub 500k EBITDA business, here are some sites to check: BizBuySell (where I found mine) BuyAndSellABusiness.com Flippa Formerly MicroAcquire (now acquire.com) LoopNet There are still lots of brokered deals for these small companies, so don't limit yourself and talk with brokers.

Getting a DEXA scan has been amazing for me. I am 6'0, 175 lbs. I saw myself as semi-athletic, though years of being sedentary had added padding. That's just normal dad stuff right? ...it turns out I was lying to myself. I have 33.4% body fat, very low lean muscle mass, and

Anecdotally, it seems like SMB multiples might be slightly lower in Canada than the US. Anyone have data on this? Theory is that not having the SBA program means fewer buyers and less liquidity, and that business valuations come down as a result. Any truth here?

I mostly post about small business and real estate. However, for the next 3 months, expect to see stuff about my health journey. On Aug 4, 2023, I measured in at 33.4% body fat. That is the fattest I will ever be, because I'm going to do everything I can to bring that number

How do you know you are ready to buy your own business? If feels like SMBtwit always says - NOW. But - I would dare say most of the thoughtful folks on here would first ask about the following: FAMILY - do they understand what it’s going to take emotionally and financially?

One thing about running a CPG business that I wasn't prepared for. I find myself giving away free cases of bone broth all the time to friends and acquaintances. It's a bit of a disease. I also dont care if it's a horrible business decision. It feels good and I'm going to keep

When it looks like this outside (smoke from wildfires) ...you do things like this. I love fort days as much as my kids, though my heart hurts for all the people evacuated right now.

A family friend bought a 73,670 acre ranch here in BC for $4M in 2021. They just sold it at auction for $15M. In general, real estate is a get rich slow play, but every once in a while you find a mispriced asset and get rich quick. What is the most mispriced asset you've seen?

Sometimes you buy a business and everything goes smoothly. Sometimes you buy a business, the lone employee leaves, and you find yourself making the bone broth. Hahahah, in life you can count on things not going to script. Thankfully, the business is small enough that we can do

I never wanted to meet any of my heroes growing up. Not because I was worried that they wouldn't measure up, but because I didn't feel I had anything of value to say to them. The truth is, I've still got a little bit of this in me. I am hesitant to reach out and connect with

People ask me how a lawyer turned City Manager ends up working in Real Estate Private Equity and buying a bone broth business. For those looking from the outside, it may seem like a crazy change, but to me, it feels like it's been a long time coming. In 2000, at age 11, I made

Off to an event with our LP clients. Is my shoe game on point, or am I trying too hard? I'll take the heat, so lay it on me.

One big takeaway from an event with our LPs last night. Investors love to know how many deals are being rejected and why. It's much easier to raise money for the deal on the table when people know you've passed on the 32 previous opportunities and why this one is different.

Inquiry for people with dogs or knowledgeable about pet food: After our bone broth simmers for 42 hours and we package the broth, the byproduct is bones (either beef or chicken), bits of meat, fat, carrots, celery and various herbs and spices. We could run this through a food
