The account in the video of how a Chief Justice is appointed is extremely misleading. You’d be forgiven for thinking Pt 2 of the Judicial Appointment Regulations 2013 simply doesn’t exist and that the Lord Chancellor somehow handpicks someone without an independent process first.

If you're an AG, and think you ought to go argue an important case yourself, you should probably not do that.
