This year's climatological peak in Atlantic tropical cyclone activity has been characterized by unusually quiet conditions. Check out how ACE starts well above average in August, but ends up flatlining & falling below average as numerous waves fail to develop:

We could not get enough of the cloud show this evening. Forecasters took turns going up to the roof to take pictures. Mammatus, lenticulars, alto cumulus and cirrus made for a beautiful #sunset. Bonus #doublerainbow with shower passing to the east. #wawx

It was unbelievable 🌌 The most brilliant display of of Auroras through the clouds.. the lake reflection was like a mirror as if you were seeing 2 auroras at once.. the small breaks in the clouds makes it look like a tunnel effect with the colors above.. pinks, reds, greens all

If skies are clear where you are, get outside now! The Northern Lights are currently visible in every direction of the sky. In fact, they are even brighter in the southern sky! #NYwx #NorthernLights #AuroraBorealis

The aurora has already been seen in New England & the upper Midwest. The Kp index is 8+ & the Bz ( measure of the solar wind ) is negative. The fly in the ointment is we have some high clouds moving in. Hopefully they will not hinder seeing the aurora if it develops. #wawx
