Educators have been systematically denied the time they need to do their work well. Five classes every day, multiple preps, grading and feedback, etc. Impossible. On top of that, they're supposed to improve? Good gravy. 15/

A big part of science is being able to efficiently locate important information. 3rd graders practiced this skill and used the index in multiple books to match animal facts with their animals!

We had ROTATION come up two weeks in a row for 1st graders, both with exploring day-night cycles and then with positioning shapes while learning about symmetry. Spatial skills are an often overlooked area that are critical for science, engineering, and math!

Last week 2nd graders experimented to determine which materials absorbed or repelled water. This week they put that information to use with Resist Art!

We've been quiet on social media but very busy in the classroom! We've been working on composing & decomposing shapes with K + 1st grade. We read "The Perfect Square" then the students saw what they could do with 1 or 2 squares!

We met Maestra Monroy years ago, her classroom is always amazing and filled with science and STEM materials, and now we are honored and lucky to have her on our board!

Excellent article. Additionally, the "teach to the [literacy & math] test" approach has effectively removed science & SS from the curriculum, ironically also lowering students reading comprehension abilities.

Equity means teaching using techniques that are effective. Sometimes this means memorizing (with understanding), especially when it comes to math
