My lab is always looking for enthusiastic and driven postdocs to join the lab. If you are in the EU and want to spend some time working on novel methanogens in beautiful Bozeman, MT, consider applying for a Marie-Curie fellowship, email me your ideas! …sklodowska-curie-actions.ec.europa.eu/actions/how-to…

Bacteria can exhibit sophisticated responses to stimuli, but should we consider them intelligent? A provocative book, The Sentient Cell, paves the way for a long-overdue conversation about consciousness. Read the #ScienceBooks Review on #BookLoversDay: scim.ag/7YR

A very cool study out of the Templeton group using SIP-Raman on a single cell level to elucidate the growth rates of bacteria. Culture independent methods like these are key to peering beyond genomics into the lifecycle of uncultured microbes!

This study reminds me of the Star Trek episode “evolution” where Wesley Crusher accidentally lets loose his Nanites in the Enterprise. The nanites were programmed to find ways to work together and evolve

Four stages of acceptance in science: 1. This is worthless nonsense. 2. This is an interesting, but a perverse point of view. 3. This is true, but quite unimportant. 4. I always said so. - J.B.S. Haldane, The Truth About Death, 1963
