Unbelievable-a nuclear site licence given for Sizewell C when there is still no guaranteed sustainable mains water supply essential for its 60yrs of op & still yrs away from having a final design of the sea defences crucial to keep the site safe for 150yrs theguardian.com/business/artic…

A nuclear site licence has been issued.. critical.. safety site issues.. unresolved. No 'final design of the sea defences.. necessary to keep this vulnerable site safe for next 150yrs.. on assumption.. some future generation will.. clear up the mess

More info on nuclear being a bad move:

Renewables can provide all our energy needs:
brookes.ac.uk/about-brookes/…

High cost - see chart

Also, the state will have to pay huge cost of decommissioning - tweet below. UK liability at £237 billion!

This is a must read though deeply disturbing. Share it widely if you can. Tories and Labour cannot be trusted with the nuclear question.

Accurate description of what we learn from the graph (which shows cumulative nuclear capacity, not 'Annual installed'):
In the past few years, the growth of China's nuclear capacity slowed down to a trickle. In 2023, the share of nuclear electricity in total demand went down.

The local election results show people support strong green policies that protect our health and the planet 💪🌍

Heavy losses for the Conservatives show that the govt’s backtracking on green pledges and attempts to turn climate into a culture war issue are backfiring.

Military interests are pushing new nuclear power - so unless U want bombs U don't need nuclear power!

'Official assessments acknowledge nuclear performs poorly compared to alternatives. With renewables & storage
significantly cheaper, climate goals are achieved faster, more affordably & reliably by diverse  other means.'

We keep under-estimating how fast renewable energy grows.

And we keep over-estimating how much fossil fuel is being used in the future.

Thanks RethinkX for these graphs!

Together Against Sizewell C (TASC) It’s blindingly obvious that safe ultra long-term storage of nuclear waste is a practical impossibility.

Nuclear energy is a Ponzi scheme that pays out today by burdening future generations with a toxic combination of huge costs and existential risk.

The life cycle costs alone should be enough to kill any new nuclear plans dead, if UK energy policy were remotely rational

The huge problem around lethal ☢️waste👇alone should stop new nuclear. There’s also:
❌Rising sea levels threaten plants
❌Far too slow (17 years)
❌Hugely expensive
❌Unresponsive: ill-suited to pair with renewables
❌ Studies say renewables are sufficient, without new nuclear

Sizewell C It will be out of date by the time it's built. You've already trashed a beautiful place. Where are two thirds of the workers coming from? Who's paying for it? What's the crime rate going to be while building it?
