In case you haven't already seen, there was an amazing new species of stick insect described last week. Everyone definitely needs to see this phasmid! Photos by Bruno Kneubรผhler researchgate.net/publication/36โ€ฆ

First saw this bird in Dec 2020 feeding high in a birch when I initially mistook it for a Linnet. It returned last Winter and again yesterday (unless it's hybrid offspring?). Always with Goldfinches but the first time on the garden feeders. Presumed Goldfinch x Linnet hybrid.

Information like this ought to be part of every child's currriculum by now. It's a shame that we'll likely have more and more years of ignorance and bigotry before most people understand and appreciate all of this.

I find it hard to access certain articles even as a PhD student at a major University. Just some journals seem to be really difficult? I'd like to think authors would be polite and much more understanding, even if they couldn't provide the article for some reason...

Caves & fissures in shaded limestone provide a challenging niche for #bryophytes. To grow here, species need to tolerate very low light and, if water seeps in, possible "entombment" in tufa. This small cave hosts Mnium stellare, Rhynchostegiella teneriffae, and Gyroweisia tenuis.
