BREAKING: In the absence of federal action, Virginia has just become the first state in the nation to adopt *enforceable* workplace safety standards for #COVID19. Workers should not have to sacrifice their health and safety to earn a living—especially not during a pandemic.

Yup. $24,000 my first year and $25,000 my second year. In Cville it was humbling doing stories on people advocating for a living wage knowing I don’t make a living wage either. You make creative meals (or no meals) when your checking account is too low to get groceries

NEW: Crews have removed this statue of Robert E. Lee and eight other Confederate busts from Virginia’s old House of Delegates chamber on orders from Speaker of the House Eileen Filler-Corn. The Lee statue was set up to symbolize the moment he accepted command of the Confederate army.

We asked Mayor Levar Stoney's office whether he'd welcome Trump's federal agents to quell protests in Richmond like we've seen in Portland, Oregon. His response: "No, thank you." More VPM: vpm.org/news/articles/…

We will be watching the public health data closely over the weekend––if the numbers don't come down, we may have to take additional steps to blunt the spread of this virus. Wear a mask and practice physical distancing so we don't have to move back. Be smart and stay safe.

Powerful things are happening in the city right now. Sabrina Moreno found words for one of them. Read about the people behind Mending Walls, who are working hard to bring people together and give voice to this moment. richmond.com/news/local/fac…

My colleague Sabrina Moreno was helping a fellow journalist when Richmond police threw her against a wall and tried to arrest them. Then police told her to go home. She didn’t. She filed a story and continues to report x.com/sabrinaamoreno…

Police just ambushed protesters at Monroe Park. Some protesters were tackled. It happened fast, just as I arrived on scene, I got as much as I could. I heard police saying “if they’re in the park, grab them. Richmond Times-Dispatch

Richmond police handcuffed a reporter with The Commonwealth Times who’s been doing a great job documenting protests. After he showed his press ID they searched his wallet, demanded his SSN, and made him lower his mask so they could take his picture. This is unacceptable policing.

The public has a right to film the police. Here, a Richmond police officer (with a ballcap on backwards?) arrests a man for filming. He was taken to jail but released without charges.
