A1. Mentor texts are magic and unlock the magic of writing for writers! Love how the chapters of Pam's book offer entry points into different text types. Makes it easy to for Ts to choose a type of writing to lean into and get started. #g2great

A2: Integration lays bare the reciprocal or connected natures of reading, writing, speaking, language and more! When Ss understand how to attend to their interplay, they see what they themselves bring to literacy and how they can use literacy to bring things to others. #g2great

Q3: Sometimes People March by Tessa Allen is a "go to" text that is packed with teaching possibilities for identity work and social comprehension (and is just plain inspiring). So many of Pam's lesson ideas could be applied here #g2great

Q5: What I maybe love most about inquiry is that it becomes a habit or approach that students come to naturally apply. Talk about "paying it forward" in student directed learning! Making their own discoveries forevermore...priceless. #g2great

A6: I'm rethinking how I can spend more time marking up one or two great books for each unit or text type. This can bring comfort and preparedness when so much else is changing and shifting. Pam's brilliant ideas can be the anchor. #g2great

One of my favorite forms of response to student writing is to pick a strong part--maybe just a great sentence--and read it back to the student AS LITERATURE.

“Consider how team members might delve into prioritized topics, actively explore ideas, joyfully engage in conversations with each other, and contribute to the overall health and well-being of the school.” Amen! This sounds like a coaching model I can get behind. 😊

With the school year beginning, it’s time to think about a fresh approach to grammar! See 5 recommendations below: 1. Imagine some possibilities. 2. Prioritize usage. 3. Approach grammar in units. 4. Teach grammar explicitly. 5. Build in time to play. bit.ly/3udJGki

Feeling deep gratitude for a beautiful opening week in Pre-K! Special thanks to Christian Robinson for inspiring big art made by these little hands. Christian’s You Matter taught us so much—the importance of every living thing and how to use lines and shapes to illustrate.
