Yellow-rumped Warblers like this handsome male have arrived in central Minnesota. They are usually the first warbler species to migrate northward. Yellowrumps are primarily insect eaters but on cold spring days when bugs are at a premium, they will feed on suet.

Male Blue-winged Teal possess three distinguishing plumage characteristics. One, a crescent-moon in front of the eye, two, colorful blue shoulder patches, and three, iridescent green speculum (secondary wing feathers behind the blue feathers).

11 years ago I took a pic of a Palm Warbler so bad I started these ID guides. I'd just begun birding & couldn’t believe how hard it was—and taking pics was impossible. Well I still contend it’s hard & that taking pics is nearly impossible but I’ll admit I’ve gotten better. See 🧵

Here's my never published image of Flaco, taken on this date (4/21/23) one year ago. It was my first time seeing him in person and it was an amazing experience. He was majestic and visibly relished his new-found freedom.

Many years ago I followed migrating ospreys from Nantucket to Cape May to Hawk Mountain to North Carolina to Florida to Cuba to Venezuela and beyond. This morning's goal is slightly less ambitious: see an osprey in Central Park. Manhattan Bird Alert SandraB

Look at our glamorous guest! We're honored to offer up our pool for the ablutions of this long-tailed duck, who is recovering from some kind of accident (we're not sure what) and being treated for a bacterial infection.

Footage of an American woodcock at Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge.

It's mating season for the timberdoodles. This male woodcock was calling and dancing just after dusk. 'PEENT!' is the loud call he makes. His wooing works as a female shows up at the end of the video.
