All set for a busy day with teams from Kent Catholic Schools' Partnership, St Peter's Primary and St John's CE Primary, Kent joining us to delve into the power of Talk for Writing and shared writing to drive key teaching points.
An inspiring day working with great people yesterday. Something that's deeply important to us is setting out our 'why' - what are we trying to achieve through Talk for Writing - what's our end goal? All teaching decisions & strategies come back to the growth of children as writers.
🎄 "It's the most wonderful time of the year" 🎄 What a treat for Y6 - a whole class set of hardbacks for Leila and the Blue Fox from Kiran Millwood Hargrave FRSL **UPDATES ONLY**
The true Independent App. of the early years. Children in our outdoor area putting the #worldsbiggeststorymap and their flipcharts to good use yesterday as they created their own Talk for Writing maps, told their own stories and experimented with some caption writing. Pie Corbett
What a treat! The marvellous Pie Corbett has been in touch to talk about being an author and to help our children create a list poem based on the idea of being inside a book. Already going to be a great #WorldBookDay
We're looking forward to celebrating the children's poetic endeavours in more detail tomorrow but here's a Year 4 #WorldBookDay poem to whet the appetite, inspired by Hansel, Gretl and Pie Corbett
Here's a group of boys playing independently in the Sandgate Primary: Talk for Writing Training Centre EYFS today. "What's that squiggly line?" I ask. "A story map," they laugh back. "How's it start?" I ask. "Once upon a time," they laugh back, and point at the little book at the start. Never ceases to make me smile.
And alongside the regular writing play, here's the culmination of a recent unit based around A New Home for a Pirate. The EYFS children have been thinking carefully about different settings for their narratives. Love. It. Pie Corbett Jamie Thomas Talk for Writing
Coming along nicely... Display shows the most recent Talk for Writing Hot Tasks in the EYFS here at Sandgate Primary: Talk for Writing Training Centre based on the Hungry Caterpillar. Model was set up to maximise opportunities for developing simple sentence fluency, plus the scope for elaboration.
A great time here at Sandgate Primary: Talk for Writing Training Centre last week as we honed the craft of guided writing to significantly drive standards when working with a group in either a Talk for Writing session or in maths lessons. Teachers and TAs worked together to role play small groups with different focuses.
A corker from Toria Bono FCCT & Bob Cox. A question I often like to ask is, "Are we teaching this book, or understanding of all litetature?" By teaching concepts across linked texts, Bob explains this with great clarity. Something we do through Talk for Reading at Sandgate Primary: Talk for Writing Training Centre
Comprehension guru Tony Whatmuff is here at Sandgate Primary: Talk for Writing Training Centre today, working and filming with the children ahead of tomorrow's inset day. Superb to work with Tony again - and incredible insight into the mechanisms and different ways that children come to comprehend text. Oxford University Press
And we’re off! Looking forward to another fun-filled Talk for Writing Taster Morning at Sandgate Primary: Talk for Writing Training Centre today! Taster mornings are every half term throughout the year - dates available via talk4writing.com and bookable by emailing or phoning the school. Pie Corbett
