This may respond to stimulant therapies. An older stimulant, amantadine, or a newer nonnarcotic stimulant called Provigil, are proven therapies in MS. Stronger stimulants of the amphetamine family are sometimes used but require much closer supervision.

Symptoms may be sporadic and common of many other disorders. There is no single lab test yet that can prove or disprove a case of MS, although MRIs have been very helpful in diagnosis.

Multiple sclerosis is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by the immune system mistakenly attacking the myelin sheath, or the protective protein coat around nerve fibers. This results in inflammation, which further damages the myelin sheath as well as the nerve cells themselves.

The findings show that treatment regimens involving the drugs tocilizumab or sarilumab reduced the death rate among Covid patients in intensive care to about 27 percent, compared with 36 percent among patients who did not receive the drugs. More at bit.ly/3j428Fc

MS has several variants and NMO is one of them. It is a rare, much more devasting disease that typically does involve the optic nerves and spinal cord but the lesions are much more extensive and severe and less likely to recover. Learn more at bit.ly/2MuHzWI
