Just shipped something I'm genuinely excited about - Elixircache! Built this Redis-compatible cache from scratch using Elixir, aim is not to beat any existing systems, want to know what it takes to build a cache and to build with elixir. Code: github.com/ProgMastermind…

First time defining SLOs for ETL at Supabase. Turns out picking good metrics for data pipelines isn't trivial, lots of nuance in what actually matters. Love building from scratch though. One day I'm in Kubernetes configs, next day building the core service, then working on UI.

Beware of phantom reads. In both Postgres and MySQL, it's possible for identical SELECTs in the same transaction to see different results. Consider a database with two clients. Client A begins a transaction and SELECTs all orders with a total price > $100. While it continues

Some early HC employees will probably remember me joking that it was my divine mission to eliminate YAML from the world. I joked I started HC only to kill YAML. Like, back in 2013. And we (as an industry) were so close! Then Kubernetes came out and fucked it all up.

Captain's Log, Stardate 48960.9 System activation of /nix/starbase/alpha-system-NX-74205-A has failed, script exited with status 1. We are adrift in the emergency shell. Even in the 24th century, Nix documentation remains... incomprehensible. End log.

One of the most impressive Postgres extensions is PostGIS. You can use `ST_ClusterKMeans()` to turn noisy GPS dots into neat blobs + centroids:
