Not all ground balls come from sinkers. Here's what I think pitching coaches should know about pitch type benchmarks, platoon splits, and why pitch usage matters more than you think.

Let's clarify spin axis, spin direction, and tilt, as they can be confusing. Understanding 3D spin is benifical for pitch design work. As a coach, I use this knowledge to help athletes improve their arsenals.

Excited to share that I’m joining the Miami Marlins as a MiLB Pitching Coach! Looking forward to working with some great people. Extremely grateful for the last 4 years with Driveline Baseball. I’ll always cherish the memories and opportunities I’ve been given. #MarlinsBeisbol

Throw plyos with a purpose. Don’t throw them just to throw them. Pick a target and hit it. With the mound about 30 feet from the wall, the ball flight gives us instant feedback, showing where the athlete misses. Command training will never stop.

Early on-ramp work with some MiLB arms after shutting down. Partner/self toss with overload implements to get the arm swing synced up again. Some of my favorite arm action drill’s early in the off season to do with my guys.

Don’t write off-season throwing programs from start to finish. Start from the report date and build backwards. You’ll know exactly how much deload and on ramp time you actually have.

My job as a pitching coach isn’t to sound smart. I use data to help make a plan that my athletes can understand and execute to make them better on the mound when a batter is in the box.

You don’t have to force pronation on a changeup. A little intentional cut can give you the exact movement profile you’re chasing.
