I'm a bit taken aback that the day the Supreme Court find people sent to Rwanda would face a risk of being murdered and tortured (based on evidence the government did not contest), the UK Prime Minister sets out an expensive plan to send people anyway.

Read for yourself the evidence upon which the Supreme Court judgment was based. "In 2021, the UK government criticised Rwanda for ā€œextrajudicial killings, deaths in custody, enforced disappearances and tortureā€" Yes, that's the same UK government that now says Rwanda is "safe".

This is just not true. Our borders are secure but wave after wave of humanitarian disasters and the fall out of failed Regimes etc means there will always be people looking for refuge. We need to work with this instead of trying to fight it.

Comments from these people show how little real information about the reality of life for asylum seekers in the UK actually reaches them. There is no need for huge profits to go to private companies like Serco or millions to go to Rwanda but they don’t seem to know that

The government introduced the illegal migration act to bar refugees of their rights. It relies on having country to send people to. There’s no safe country the government can send people to, so now it’s time to throw out those shameful, useless rules, not overrule the courts

🚨URGENT Downing Street plans to introduce a bill to parliament a week on Monday & fast-track it through the Commons & Lords so there is not much time! IF WE UNITE NOW WE CAN STOP IT! RT/tag your MP & ask that they do the right thing by voting to stop it

Break our own Human Rights Act to torment & brutalise a few hundred people. Rwanda won’t solve any problems. It’s an evil wicked vanity scheme at huge finance cost & catastrophic human rights costs. theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/n…

When you contract out any service which provides for needy members of our society, it is obvious that the venture’s top priority must be profit for the share holders. Hence such services must be provided on a without profit basis only.
