The Salvation Army made up 100 sack lunches to pass out as part of its mobile canteen community outreach to the Boys and Girls Club members and families.

Thanks to an art teacher at Benton Elementary for providing the colorful lunch sacks for the nurses working long hours at the VA Medical Center taking care of patients.

Thank you to Sanctuary Arts School for donating face shields to The Salvation Army. We appreciate your thoughtfulness. The shields are being used as we prepare meals in our kitchen, and in our shelter and office areas.

National Salvation Army Week activities in Shreveport kicked off Monday with a “Donuts for Donors” event to celebrate our local supporters, who were encouraged to drive thru the parking lot for sweet treats, courtesy of Dunkin Donuts.

National Salvation Army Week continued today locally with “Thankful Tuesday” as hot “to go” lunches were given to the Shreveport Fire Department personnel from nearby Station No. 5, which serves our shelter’s emergency needs. We are thankful for our first responders.

More than 450 lunches have been delivered since April 1 to the nurses and staff taking care of isolated patients at the VA Medical Center.

Friday, June 5 is National Donut Day, first celebrated by The Salvation Army in Chicago in 1938 to help those in need and to commemorate the work of the original “Donut Lassies,” who were Salvation Army volunteers serving donuts to American soldiers in France during World War I.

The Salvation Army staff and volunteers are out delivering 1,200 donuts from our partner, Southern Maid, to our local “heroes,” the first responders and healthcare professionals in the Shreveport-Bossier City area.

The Salvation Army continues to reach out to its seniors with drive up hot lunches during these challenging times. Since late March, more than 485 lunches have been picked up or delivered to our Saints Alive! Seniors program members and their families.

The Salvation Army was honored to receive a donation of 500 face masks from Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport. “It’s so important to keep our shelter residents and staff safe. We appreciate this gift so much, and we will make good use of them,” said Lt. Jamaal Ellis.
