Our colleagues from the Department of Antiquities Libya, Mahmoud Hadia and Ahmed Alemmary have been out collecting photographs of the theatre of Sabratha using a UAV. As the theatre is so large and complex a structure many photographs will be needed to make an accurate 3D model.

In order to make our 3D model very accurate we record points on the ground. We mark these points with black and white targets and then make sure we photograph and record their locations with a GPS. The GPS information is then combined with our photographs in specialist software.

Several UAV flights later, over 850 photographs taken and lots of GPS points we are now waiting for the 3D model of the theatre to finish processing.... We can't wait to share our results!!
