🧸 No child should have their potential curtailed by the material wealth of their family in a modern, prosperous society like Scotland. 📢 Eradicating child poverty is the greatest investment in our country’s future that we can possibly make.

Poverty is corrosive to humanity, strips away dignity and smothers hope. I am proud Scottish Government policies, including Scottish Child Payment, are estimated to be keeping 100k children out of poverty this year. But more could be done if Labour made key welfare changes at Westminster.

Social Justice Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville has confirmed @Scotgov remains committed to protecting, promoting and advancing human rights. Ahead of the introduction of a Human Rights Bill we will work with stakeholders and the UK Government to strengthen future legislation.

The @thesnp Scottish Government remains absolutely and fully committed to legislation to End Conversion Practices. We hope to do so working with UK Govt but the work on a 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Bill continues should that not be possible.

I recall trying to amend Labour’s Housing Bill in the Scottish Parliament over 20 years ago to end ‘right to buy’ but then Labour Housing Minister Jackie Baillie and Wendy Alexander rejecting it. It took an SNP Government to scrap it to protect the supply of Council houses.
