This news is angering & heartbreaking on many levels. What a MASSIVE step back for victims & survivors of sexual assault.

We will be putting out a formal statement regarding the overturning of rape convictions but for now, we reaffirm that we at SOAR Canada stand with survivors.

It’s terrifying & heartbreaking just how much victims & survivors will go through in order to provide evidence only to still not be believed by members of the jury.

And just a reminder: No other state has a law that keeps secret all arrests and reports of sexual/domestic violence. ally jarmanning reported the law has drawn complaints. wbur.org/news/2022/08/2…

The @wbur story has many other details. For instance, other police departments in Mass. keep it secret when people file reports of sexual assault allegations, citing state law. Quincy Police acknowledged there have been at least 6 unsolved crimes involving unknown assailants.

For years, women complained they were sexually assaulted. Each time, DNA pointed to the same man, who allegedly picked up intoxicated women outside Boston bars. But again and again, police declined to make an arrest and kept the incidents secret. wbur.org/news/2024/04/2…
