I am thrilled to announce our newest paper showing lysosomal protein catabolism as a mechanism to reduce the stress of cystine starvation, GSH depletion, and consequently ferroptosis. It's been incredible working with Dixon lab Scott Dixon and David Armenta sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
Congrats to co-lead authors David Armenta from the Scott Dixon lab and Nouf Laqtom from our lab and all team members on this collaborative work being published. authors.elsevier.com/c/1f~Zd8jWWJpj… Sarafan ChEM-H
It was a great pleasure for David Armenta, Grace Alchemy, Carson Poltorack, and I to work with Monther Abu-Remaileh Nouf Laqtom, Wentao Dong, and Danielle Morrow and NathansonLab, on this project focused on lysosomal function and ferroptosis resistance.

Hyemin and I wrote a Preview in CellChemicalBiology to discuss a very interesting #ferroptosis paper by Scott Dixon in CellChemicalBiology 1/ authors.elsevier.com/a/1flog8jWWJpj…
Here is my take on the current state of the growing #ferroptosis field after the first 10 years. Freely available at Cell -- @columbia Columbia - Irving Institute for Cancer Dynamics CU Cancer Center Columbia University_Bio Enjoy! sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
Awesome to see our recent paper highlighted on the cover of Nature Chemical Biology Nature Chemical Biology! Amazing artwork from Maayan Harel Maayan Harel - Visual storytelling for science! Congrats James Olzmann and team, including another ACS Research investigator Scott Dixon! This group is leading the charge elucidating mechanisms of ferroptosis resistance in cancer cells. Exciting possibilities for targeting these pathways to kill cancer cells. 👏
Excited to see our paper online Zhipeng Li! We identify LRP8 as a ferroptosis resistance factor in cancer, revealing rewiring of selenium metabolism and ribosome stalling/collisions during GPX4 translation as ferroptosis vulnerabilities. Tweetorial! 1/ nature.com/articles/s4158…
Excited to share this preprint from an amazing postdoc in our lab Zhipeng Li! Low selenium levels in LRP8 KO sensitizes cancer cells to #ferroptosis due to an increase in ribosome stalling, ribosome collisions, and early GPX4 translation termination. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Peter Tsvetkov Peter Tsvetkov, the Golub lab, and colleagues, describe a ‘cuproptosis’ mechanism in their new paper in Science (below). Martha Kahlson in my lab previews the work here:

Its finally out! copper induced cell death, or #cuproptosis , a new form of regulated cell death induced by copper ionophores targeting lipoylated (there is such a thing) and Fe-S cluster proteins in a process that is FDX1 dependent Broad Institute science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
