childmind.org/article/is-it-… Is it ADHD or complex trauma?. Which have many overlapping behavioural characteristics. A proper trauma assessment and investigation should be carried out before labelling and medicating.🧠🌱

Learning to fully relax, lower the heart rate, control breathing and release adrenaline held in major muscle groups, is a scientifically proven method of reducing stress. When we have a feeling of relaxation and warm wellbeing, we cannot have feelings of stress at the same time.

Art has an incredible way of helping us relax, let go. and disconnect from stress. It doesn't matter what we paint or how well we paint, but the production of endorphins and feel-good effects, that make art a powerful tool for self-care and improved mental health. nurture

As a nurturing school, where the six Nurture principles are firmly embedded in our practices, policies and procedures, we can wholeheartedly testify, that whole-school Nurture, is a truly effective pastoral approach.

I love this. It describes so accurately the internal world of the trauma brain and highlights for me as a Nurture Practitioner, the importance of meeting internal chaos with calm.

This afternoon Nurture pupils took part in a 10 minute daily calm meditation. This was an opportunity to practise self-help and emotional self-regulation. This week our focus is to avoid taking things personally and to make an intention to let go of troubling thoughts.

We have a new friend at Nurture who needs a name. He or she, was kindly donated by Fr Declan the Diocesan Adviser for Religious Education in Post Primary Schools. Pupils can take part in the competition to name him/her this week. Good luck everyone!

At Nurture this afternoon we had a pupil led plenary to assess learning around the topic of Zones of Regulation. Some excellent learning and engagement this afternoon. Excuse the pool cue, they preferred this pointer over the digital version! Some excellent teachers in Nurture!

With their swirling pops of sparkle and colour, Nurture pupils enjoyed making mood jars this week. A fun activity to aid self-regulation for overwhelmed or anxious children.

Although a little camera shy, Nurture pupils were giving some thought to their personal support network. #selfcare #resilience
