According to the CSO, only 2,4% of children in Ireland cycle to school. 24% walk, but the majority (55%) get to school by car. This is a shocking statistic. Our car-centric transport system has taken the freedom away from our children. We are enabling inactivity, not activity.

Cars are a luxury good. They are INCREDIBLY expensive to buy, maintain and repair. They are a financial trap for low income people. Centering our civilization on them dilutes the tax base, destroys and degrades human settlements and immiserates, sickens and kills so many people.

Reimagining our road space to support public transport and active travel will help create a more vibrant and people-friendly city. Let's prioritise the collective over individual comfort.

Cosain Climate 🌍 Darragh Callanan 🐄 Yes, and this kind of thinking leads to traffic. If you want to avoid traffic, you have to build a transportation SYSTEM with multiple, viable ways to get from point A to B. You also need planning models that enable walking and cycling.
