As a retro game geek and ex-BBC News UX director I can totally see how it would happen! A quick set-up between segments. Trying to get the cart visible on camera. At least it wasn't a Wii CD stuck in the cartridge port.

UX feedback on the #emergencyalert - if you hit ok to turn off the annoying sound, you should then be able to read the alert until you opt to clear it. You should also be able to go back to the alert to reread it. Also less text, start the text with the action you need to take.
